Established in 2021, The Wood Lab was founded with a mission to create sustainable, handcrafted wooden goods that honor both craftsmanship and conservation. Based in Murphy, NC, our family-owned and operated business—run by myself, my wife, and our daughter (alongside our three loyal Wood Labs)—ensures that every piece we craft follows a full-circle approach. We source wood locally, harvesting from our own North Carolina properties while committing to planting three trees for every one we fell. From milling to kiln-drying to handcrafting in our workshop, our process guarantees that each item remains in our hands from start to finish. As a veteran-owned company, we take pride in producing 100% American-made, chemical-free wooden goods that blend functionality with artistry, bringing the natural beauty of our region into kitchens across the country. At The Wood Lab, we don’t just craft cutting and charcuterie boards—we preserve the integrity of the wood from the moment it’s harvested. Unlike many woodworkers who source exotic hardwoods from dealers, we mill our own timber, allowing us to capture the most unique parts of each log while maintaining quality control throughout the entire process. We specialize in domestic closed-cell hardwoods like Walnut, Maple, and Cherry—ideal for food-safe cutting boards—avoiding open-cell exotic woods that can contain toxins. Every board is carefully shaped, sanded, and finished using only the highest-quality, food-safe materials. We use Titebond 3 FDA-approved waterproof glue and all-natural mineral oil to enhance durability without introducing synthetic chemicals. Non-skid feet with stainless screws elevate the boards for stability, ensuring longevity and ease of use. As frequent participants in Tampa Bay craft markets, we value customer feedback and continuously refine our designs to meet the needs of real kitchens.
